Traditional Ukrainian Food in the East Village - Veselka

In 1954, a Ukrainian immigrant began Veselka on the corner of ninth and second avenue as a newsstand with handful of tables for homemade Eastern European soup and sandwiches.

Over the course of sixty-one years, it transformed into a cozy cafe, and now it thrives as a family-friendly twenty-four hour neighborhood restaurant where when one is in the mood for comfort food, or a perfect after-hour destination to recharge with sweet or savory pierogies, goulash, stuff cabbage and many other Ukrainian soul food.
