Denzel Washington in "Raisin in the Sun" on Broadway
If a night at the theater is in your future be sure to check out Denzel Washington's return to Broadway in "Raisin in the Sun" at the Ethel Barrymore Theater that will run through June 15. Washington plays Walter Lee Younger in the latest rendition of Lorraine Hansberry's book. While Washington might be two decades older than the character is written, with director Kenny Leon's take on the classic, it works because Younger is aged prematurely due to the stresses facing this 1959 family. The story of "Raisin in the Sun" is definitely a period piece, but this production has the feel of happening in today's times with all the recession anxieties that many people are facing making it easy to relate to the characters on stage.

What a treat it was to see Denzel Washington performing live on stage. I had to pinch myself at the privilege. What was amazing, was that he didn't outshine the other cast members... The story was real, touching and emotionally charged. Instead of it dragging you down and being too heavy, the acting and the humor kept it alive. This was one of the best broadway shows I have seen.reviewer: Dave M from Toronto, Canada An amazing performance from an amazing cast.Broadway has never looked better. Denzel pours his heart and soul into his character as does everyone else.
