Recommended by "Those In the Know": ARCHTOBER 2016, Citywide, Monthlong Architecture/Design FestivalTour
Thought you might like to know about a major architecture-and-design festival coming up in New York in the fall.
Archtober 2016 Architecture and Design Month will be major draw for archi-tourists and locals alike throughout October. This year's Archtober is the sixth annual, and the festival has been such a success it has begun to spawn imitators in other cities.
A celebration of the impact of design, in a city celebrated the world over for its architecture, Archtober's calendar is loaded with scores of activities, talks, tours, walks, shows, films, installations and exhibitions throughout all five of New York City's boroughs. Headquarters for Archtober is the Center for Architecture in Greenwich Village, where the Archtober Lounge welcome visitors throughout October with guides, program information, and a dramatic meet-up spot for festival-goers. (This year the lounge will feature a cave-like installation of polyhedral walls and ceilings.)
And as always, Archtober will feature 31 "Building of the Day" tours -- the festival's most popular event series -- one each day of the month at a different awe-inspiring, "only in New York" location such as St. Patrick's Cathedral or Zaha Hadid's only NYC building. Images from some of these sites are uploaded, to give you a taste.
You can find complete festival information at archtober.org.
AIA New York Chapter/Center for Architecture organizes the event, working with 50+ participant organizations.
